Phascum cuspidatum #1

Phascum cuspidatum is one of the pigmy mosses which follow the melting of snow in the spring. It is common on disturbed soil, along garden paths, old rock garden paths, etc. This specimen, magnified a good many times, could be from almost anyone's back yard. The original plant is only 2 or 3 mm high. They usually grow close together.
